Nine Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Nurses Among Top in State

August 3, 2022

Nine Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist nurses have been chosen as North Carolina Great 100 Nurses of 2022.

Great 100, Inc. recognizes and honors registered nurses in the state for their commitment to excellence and promoting a positive image of the nursing profession. The Great 100 also includes a scholarship program to support nursing education.

“Only 100 nurses are chosen each year from more than 700 applicants for this once-in-a-lifetime honor,” said Deb Harding, DNP, vice president and regional chief nurse executive at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. “Particularly over the past couple of years, these nurses have risen to the top, demonstrating excellence in the care they provide to our patients, families and each other and I am so proud of them.”

The nine Wake Forest Baptist nurses recognized include four at Brenner Children’s Hospital: Kayla Atkinson, Eden Hair, Angel Mitchell and Nancy Smith; three at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center: Valerie Bitterman, Amanda Goodin-Sherrill and Sandy Tysinger; and two at High Point Medical Center: Amy Stehle and Jessica Whisenhunt.
Nurses are nominated for their hospital and community involvement, and nominations are scored based on how the nominee promotes and advances nursing; demonstrates integrity, honesty and accountability; displays commitment to patients, families and colleagues; cares for and helps other nurses grow and develop; and shows energy and enthusiasm.

In all, 17 Atrium Health nurses are included on the Great 100 Nurses list.
