WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – L.N. Dorairajan, M.D., a urologist from India, has received a prestigious scholarship from the Indian American Urological Association to spend two months studying robot-assisted and laparoscopic surgery at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center’s Department of Urology.
The association awards a maximum of two Chakraborty fellowships annually that allow young physicians who are involved in research to spend three months observing at an institution of their choice. It is designed to provide junior faculty members with the opportunity to enrich their urologic education.
Dorairajan, a professor of urology at Jawahar Lal Nehru Institute of Post-graduate Medicine and Research in Pondicherry, India, selected Wake Forest Baptist because of its leadership role in robotic surgery.
“We were honored that Dr. Dorairajan selected our center,” said Ashok Hemal, M.D., director of the department’s Robotic and Minimally Invasive Surgery Program.
Hemal is a world pioneer in robot-assisted surgery and helped develop many of the protocols used by physicians nationwide.
