Wake Forest Baptist Providing Emergency Care at Iredell Memorial Hospital

December 21, 2017

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and Iredell Health System have established a partnership in which Wake Forest Baptist physicians and other medical professionals are providing emergency care at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville.

The Wake Forest Baptist practitioners, who are specially trained in emergency medicine, work with Iredell Memorial nurses and other staff members in the Emergency Department of the 247-bed hospital.

The Wake Forest Baptist team replaced a previously contracted emergency room group last month. It is common practice for hospitals to contract outside physician groups for emergency room staffing.

“This partnership will enhance the very positive relationship we already have with Iredell Health and Iredell County EMS,” said Chadwick Miller, M.D., chair of emergency medicine at Wake Forest Baptist. “We manage and staff a number of emergency departments at hospitals throughout the region, and we are excited to partner with Iredell Memorial to provide the best possible care to adults and children in Iredell and surrounding counties.”

Previously established partnerships between Wake Forest Baptist and Iredell Health have Wake Forest Baptist physicians working with the medical team at Iredell Memorial in vascular care, stroke response and oncology and radiation therapy. Also, a specially equipped ambulance is based at Iredell Memorial for pediatric patients who need critical transport to Brenner Children’s Hospital on Wake Forest Baptist’s main campus in Winston-Salem.

“By partnering with a renowned health care leader like Wake Forest Baptist, we can increase access in this area to more advanced medical services from one of the region’s most trusted providers,” said Ed Rush, president and CEO of Iredell Health System.

The Wake Forest Baptist emergency medicine team at Iredell Memorial is directed by Bryan Beaver, M.D., who also is medical director for Iredell County EMS.
