Wake Forest Baptist Unit Receives National Award

 The cardiovascular intensive care unit at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has been awarded a three-year Silver Beacon Award for Excellence from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN).

This national award recognizes units that improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s work environment standards. Wake Forest Baptist is one of only four hospitals in North Carolina that currently have Beacon-designated units.

The AACN is the largest specialty nursing organization in the world with 500,000 acute and critical care nurses and 235 chapters worldwide.

Winston-Salem Foundation Grants Help Fund Two Wake Forest Baptist Programs

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – April 13, 2016 – Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has received two grants from the Winston-Salem Foundation that will extend funding for a bilingual Hispanic clinical trial navigator at the Comprehensive Cancer Center and help assess behavioral health assets in Forsyth County.

A grant of $21,036 will fund the navigator position that helps Hispanic cancer patients overcome health care system barriers. A second grant of $15,750 will fund the Community Health Asset Mapping Partnership, which seeks to update Forsyth’s existing listings of behavioral health assets.

Founded in 1919, the Winston-Salem Foundation supports charitable programs in the greater Forsyth County area. In 2015, the foundation granted $26.6 million to charitable causes.

Wake Forest Baptist Physician Honored with National Award

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – April 13, 2016 – Matthew Wayne Bullock, D.O., assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at Wake Forest Baptist Health-Lexington Medical Center, has been awarded the Bob Green Memorial Award.

This annual award is given to the member of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics (AOAO) who achieved the highest combined score in the written and oral certification examinations for the prior year.

The Bob Green Memorial Award was established by the AOAO board of directors in memory of Robert L. Green, M.D., who served as member and chairman of the board. 

Wake Forest Baptist Physician Assistant Named Trustee

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – April 13, 2016 – Suzanne Reich, PA-C, associate professor of physician assistant (PA) studies at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has been appointed a trustee of the PA Foundation.

Reich is currently the associate program director with the PA program at the Wake Forest School of Medicine.

 The PA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, works to advance the profession and positively impact the lives of PAs, PA students, their patients and communities.

Wake Forest Baptist Pharmacist Honored for Performance

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – April 13, 2016 – LeAnne Kennedy, PharmD, pharmacist at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has been inducted as an inaugural fellow of the Hematology/Oncology Pharmacy Association (HOPA).

Kennedy was recognized for her contributions to HOPA, performance in oncology pharmacy and participation in volunteer services.

HOPA supports pharmacy practitioners and promotes advancement in hematology/oncology pharmacy to optimize the care of individuals affected by cancer.

Wake Forest Baptist Physician Assistant Earns National Recognition 

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – April 13, 2016 – Erin Thompson, PA-C, physician assistant at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has received a certificate of added qualifications (CAQ) from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

Thompson was awarded a CAQ in pediatrics, a distinction earned by meeting licensure, education, experience requirements and passing an exam in the specialty. She previously earned a CAQ in emergency medicine, making her one of only 11 certified PAs nationally to have earned two CAQs.

The NCCPA is the only certifying organization for PAs in the United States.
