Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has appointed William M. Satterwhite, M.D., J.D., its first chief health and wellness officer, effective Aug. 1.
In this newly created position, Satterwhite will oversee the alignment and expansion of the Medical Center’s portfolio of health-improvement services for internal, employee and community audiences.
“Bringing Dr. Satterwhite on board as our new chief health and wellness officer is the beginning of an exciting new pathway to improved health for those we work with and for those we serve,” said Terry Williams, M.B.A., Wake Forest Baptist’s executive vice president for strategy and administration.
Satterwhite, a native of Winston-Salem, received his bachelor’s degree from Davidson College and his law degree from UNC Chapel Hill. After practicing law for five years in Charlotte, he earned his medical degree at Wake Forest School of Medicine in 1997 and completed his residency in pediatrics at Wake Forest Baptist in 2000.
Satterwhite joins Wake Forest Baptist from Novant Health, where he established Novant Health Twin City Pediatrics in 2003, provided leadership to more than 40 Triad-area practices in the Novant system and led Novant’s managed-care committee. He also founded the Pediatric Community Council to bring area pediatricians together to address barriers to effective care for children and served as a physician consultant to the Northwest Community Care Network.
