Wake Forest Baptist Pediatric Emergency Department Earns Construction Award
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Nov. 22, 2011 – Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’s Pediatric Emergency Department has earned a top award from the Associated Builders and Contractors of the Carolinas.
Lend Lease Construction Inc. of Charlotte, the general contractor for the Wake Forest Baptist project, received the Eagle Award for Excellence in Construction in category of health care projects valued at between $10 million and $25 million.
This award also recognized HKS Inc. of Richmond, Va., as the interior designer, CJMW Architecture of Winston-Salem as the furnishings planner and Wake Forest Baptist as the owner.
The Brenner Children’s Hospital Emergency Department at Wake Forest Baptist, which opened in April, is a 20,665-square-foot facility with 18 examination rooms, four larger treatment rooms, two trauma rooms, a diagnostic suite and large waiting area. It also includes a covered patient drop-off zone and separate ambulance staging area that is away from public access.
The award was presented Nov. 17 at the ABC of the Carolinas’ awards banquet in Greensboro.
Wake Forest Baptist Doctor and School Health Program Receive Award
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Nov. 22, 2011 – The Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center Pediatrician Jane M. Foy, M.D., and the School Health Alliance for Forsyth County have received the Promising Practices Award for Promoting Adolescents’ Strengths from the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Adolescent Health Partnership Project.
The award recognizes innovative contributions to adolescent health at a local level.
The School Health Alliance for Forsyth County is a partner organization with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools committed to improving child and adolescent physical and mental health through health system changes and the development of new health services. Foy has been active in the alliance since its inception and served as its medical/project director until July of this year.
The award will be recognized Dec. 6 at the annual conference of the North Carolina School Community Health Alliance in Raleigh.
Wake Forest Baptist Doctor Cited for Humanitarian Spine Care
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Nov. 22, 2011 –Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center Neurosurgeon Charles L. Branch, M.D., has been named by Becker’s Review as one of the nation’s top 10 spine surgeons in humanitarian spine care.
The review encompassed a list of surgeons specializing in spine care who are founders of organizations or participate in medical mission trips to provide humanitarian spine care to less-fortunate communities across the globe.
Branch, chair of neurosurgery at Wake Forest Baptist, has been involved in several medical mission trips to places such as Haiti, Guyana, Nigeria and Guatemala.
Wake Forest Baptist Cardiothorasic Surgery Again Listed as Top Performer
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Nov. 22, 2011 – The Cardiothoracic Surgery Program at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has continued to be listed as a three-star performer in the Composite Quality Rating by The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS).
STS is a not-for-profit organization that represents more than 6,000 health care professionals, such as cardiothoracic surgeons and researchers. The Composite Quality Rating, developed by STS, ranks programs according to clinical excellence and patient safety.
According to STS, this comprehensive rating system for the quality of cardiac surgery among hospitals across the country will only rank 12-15 percent of applicants with a three-star rating, which denotes the highest category of quality.
