WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Stephen J. Susalka, Ph.D., has been named assistant director of the Office of Technology Asset Management of Wake Forest University Health Sciences.
Susalka comes to Wake Forest from the University of Virginia, where he had been a licensing associate at the University of Virginia Patent Foundation since 2002.
“Technology Asset Management is privileged to have Dr. Susalka join our organization,” said Michael Batalia, Ph.D., director of the office. “Dr. Susalka will be responsible for managing and developing inventions that originate within Wake Forest University. His experience in the field of technology transfer and patent law is a valuable addition to our office and to our community."
Susalka is a registered U.S. Patent Agent well versed in patent law in a university setting. At UVa, he managed an extensive portfolio of life science technologies, solicited and evaluated new invention disclosures, analyzed the commercial potential of inventions, and monitored the performance of the companies that had licensed to use UVa. inventions.
He earned his bachelor of science degree in biology and psychology at the College of William and Mary and his doctor of philosophy degree from the University of Virginia in neuroscience.
