Licensing revenues at Wake Forest University increased by 77 percent in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2004, reaching $34,296,000, according to Michael Batalia, Ph.D., acting director of the Office of Technology Asset Management.
In fiscal 2003, licensing revenues were $19,318,000. In fiscal 2002, the total was $17,886,000, enough to rank Wake Forest as 14th nationally in licensing revenues. That ranking was released in January by the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM). The rank for 2003 is not yet available.
“These increases in revenue have been a great benefit to Wake Forest,” said Batalia. “This income has allowed us to develop more resources.”
The Office of Technology Asset Management serves all of Wake Forest University, but Batalia said nearly all the revenues were generated by patents from Wake Forest University Health Sciences.
The annual report also showed that 30 inventions were disclosed, nine patents were issued, seven new applications were filed for patents, and use of seven patents were either licensed or optioned.
