Wake Forest Adjunct Professor Named Physician of the Year by American Heart Association

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Michael A. Moore, M.D., F.A.C.P., F.A.H.A., has received the Physician of the Year Award from the American Heart Association (AHA).

Moore, an adjunct professor of medicine at the Hypertension & Vascular Disease Center at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, was honored at the AHA’s 2004 National Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C.

He was selected for the award by the AHA in recognition of his work to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular disease. A specialist in hypertension and kidney disease, Moore was cited for his efforts in his clinical practice, as a medical educator, an AHA volunteer and the founder of two voluntary cardiovascular organizations. He has been in practice for more than 24 years in Danville, Va.

A long-time AHA volunteer, Moore is chairman of the organization’s Professional and Public Education Committee of the Council for High Blood Pressure Research. From 1984 to 1992, he was the AHA representative to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) National Blood Pressure Education Coordinating Committee. He serves as a consultant to the NHLBI’s National High Blood Pressure Education Program.

In 1993, Moore helped found the Consortium for Southeastern Hypertension Control, an organization created to address the high number of deaths in the Southeast due to heart disease and stroke.
