National Cancer Survivors Day Scheduled for June 8

May 31, 2002

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The annual National Cancer Survivors Day celebration will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, corner of Peace Haven and Country Club Road, on Saturday, June 8th, from 11:30am to 2 pm. More than 500 people, including over 300 cancer survivors, are expected to attend the annual “Celebration of Life” for cancer survivors and their families. In addition to entertainment, activities, door prizes and gifts, physicians will share their experiences as cancer survivors.

The event is a collaborative effort of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Novant Health/Forsyth Medical Center, and Cancer Services, Inc. It is a day of fellowship, entertainment, education and inspiration provided at no cost to attendees.

The first national Cancer Survivor’s Day event in Winston-Salem was coordinated by the Comprehensive Cancer Center of Wake Forest University in June of 1990 at the Alumni Plaza at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. A coalition was formed with Cancer Services and Forsyth Medical Center in 1993 and the event has been a cooperative effort since then.
