WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – A. William Blackstock Jr., M.D., professor of radiation oncology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, has been named chair of radiation oncology, effective August 31. He replaces Edward G. Shaw, M.D., chair since 1995, who has stepped down to return to graduate school to pursue a master’s degree in counseling.
Blackstock earned his medical degree from East Carolina School of Medicine and completed his residency and fellowship at University of North Carolina Hospitals. He has been on the faculty of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center since 1996. An accomplished clinical trial investigator in lung and gastrointestinal cancers, Blackstock has been the principal or co-principal investigator for 10 national and international research studies. He was named one of America’s leading African-American physicians by Black Enterprise magazine.
