Spencer K. Lemons has been named director of Technology Asset Management for Wake Forest University. He comes to the Medical Center from North Carolina State University where he had served as associate director for the Office of Technology Transfer and Industry Research.
In his new position, Lemons will serve both Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center and other research components of Wake Forest University. "I am excited about the opportunity at Wake Forest University and look forward to the challenges and rewards of managing this office and to working with the faculty, staff and students," Lemons said.

In announcing Lemons'' hiring, Jay Moskowitz, Ph.D., senior associate dean, said, "The congruence of Mr. Lemons'' proven technology transfer experience and his commercialization know-how with Wake Forest''s talented faculty provide for great opportunities to develop further the university''s patenting and licensing programs and economic growth of Winston-Salem as a technology city. We look forward to working with him."
Richard H. Dean, M.D., senior vice president for health affairs and director of the Medical Center, said, "As the Medical Center further strengthens its research engine, the Technology Asset Management staff will play a pivotal role. Mr. Lemons is the ideal individual to implement the strategies necessary to reach our full commercialization potential. We look forward to his guidance in building our technology transfer mission to new heights."
Lemons was a Lyndhurst Fellow at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he received his master of arts in teaching (science education) and previously did graduate work in the biochemistry department. He received his bachelor of arts degree in biology and chemistry from Rollins College. Lemons comes to the Medical Center with a broad and varied background in technology commericalization, sales, research and education.
