An estimated 180,000 American men will get prostate cancer this year, and 41,000 will die from the disease. With early detection, however, the disease can often be curable. Free prostate cancer screenings will be held on Saturday, September 25 from 8am to noon at Medical Park Hospital, 1950 S. Hawthorne Road, and Reynolds Health Center, 741 Highland Avenue in Winston-Salem.
Also, a free screening, by appointment only, is scheduled for September 23 from 6:00 - 8:00pm at Medical Park Hospital. Call 760-0122 or 800-933-4568 to make an appointment.
The screenings are open to men over 50 who have not had a prostate exam in the past year, or men over 40 who are African/American or have a family history of prostate cancer. For information call Health On-Call at 716-2255 or 800-446-2255, or Health Connections at 760-0122 or 800-933-4568.
