Alleghany Health Adds New Services, Welcomes Alleghany Family Medicine to Its Health System

July 1, 2020

Alleghany Health, an affiliate of Wake Forest Baptist Health and Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital, is expanding its health care services with the addition of Alleghany Family Medicine, formerly Alleghany Family Practice, to existing internal medicine and specialty care services.

Alleghany Family Medicine is a long-standing family practice clinic that has been providing care to citizens of all ages in Alleghany County and the surrounding region for over 40 years.

Alleghany Family Medicine is staffed by Mary Digel, M.D., Denise Bryant, M.D., Richard Ambler, M.D., Ann Watson, P.A.-C., and Rachel McKenzie, P.A.-C., who will continue to provide the same excellent care to existing and new patients in the same location.

Alleghany Family Medicine sees patients of all ages, providing wellness and sports exams, acute care, routine care for chronic conditions as well as conducting minor procedures. “We are pleased to join our family practice with Alleghany Health so that together we can offer a continuum of health care and services to those in Alleghany and surrounding counties,” stated Digel.
Building renovations underway at Alleghany Health will house multiple services in one facility and support continued growth.

“Alleghany Family Practice joining the Alleghany Health team shows the benefits and strengths of having Wake Forest Baptist and Hugh Chatham as partners. Their addition combined with the future completion of the new medical facility will deliver better, more efficient, and convenient medical services to our community which is the ongoing mission and goal of Alleghany Health,” said Rocky Proffit, Chairman of Alleghany Health Board of Directors. “This is one more step in our plan to transform health care delivery and offer high quality care close to home in the Alleghany region.”

Alleghany Family Medicine is located at 214 Doctor’s St., Sparta and is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Patients and referring providers may call 336-372-5606 for questions or to schedule appointments.
