Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has once again been recognized for the level of care provided to patients who have suffered a heart attack, also called a myocardial infarction (MI).
Wake Forest Baptist is one of 225 hospitals nationwide to receive the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain – MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award in 2019. The National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR) is part of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and helps hospitals and providers measure and improve the quality of cardiovascular care they provide.
“To receive this prestigious award two years in a row is validation of our commitment to consistently delivering the highest quality of care to all of our patients,” said David Zhao, M.D., chief of cardiovascular medicine and executive director of Wake Forest Baptist’s Heart and Vascular Center. “I am proud of our entire team for achieving the highest standards for specific performance measures while always looking at ways to improve the level of care we provide to everyone we serve.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that nationally more than 700,000 people suffer a heart attack each year.
The Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry empowers health care provider teams to consistently treat heart attack patients according to the most current, science-based guidelines and establishes a national standard for understanding and improving the quality, safety and outcomes of care provided for patients with coronary artery disease, specifically high-risk heart attack patients.
