Wake Forest Baptist Professor Awarded for Research
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Oct. 2, 2017 – Francis Walker, M.D., professor of neurology at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has received the 2017 Distinguished Researcher Award from the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM).
Walker was awarded for his contributions to clinical neurophysiology research.
The AANEM is an association dedicated to the advancement of neuromuscular, musculoskeletal and electrodiagnostic medicine.
Wake Forest Baptist Professor Recognized by Alma Mater
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Oct. 2, 2017 – Patrick Ober, M.D., professor of endocrinology and metabolism at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, was named to the Wall of Fame at his alma mater, the University of Florida College of Medicine.
The award recognizes outstanding alumni who have made contributions to medicine, government, education and the community.
Since the inception of the wall over 25 years ago, the college has recognized only 32 alumni.
Wake Forest Baptist Professor Honored for Contributions
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Oct. 2, 2017 –Michael T. Munley, Ph.D., professor of radiation oncology, biomedical engineering and physics at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has been elected by the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) as a fellow of the association.
Munley was recognized for his contributions to clinical practice, research, education and leadership in the medical physics community.
The AAPM mission is to advance medicine through excellence in the science, education and professional practice of medical physics.
Wake Forest Baptist Pathology Administrator Named Treasurer of State Association
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Oct. 2, 2017– Cameron Thomason, administrative director of pathology at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has been named treasurer for the 2017/2018 fiscal year of the NC Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA).
The HFMA is a national organization for health care finance leaders and supports coalitions with other health care associations to achieve solutions for the challenges facing the health care system. The North Carolina chapter serves over 900 health care finance professionals across the state.
Wake Forest School of Medicine Students Receive National Honors
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Oct. 2, 2017 – Monalisa Hassan and Mustafa Abid, both second-year students at Wake Forest School of Medicine, have been awarded Benjamin H. Kean Travel Fellowships in Tropical Medicine from the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH).
The annual fellowship is the only medical student award dedicated to fostering a career path for physician-scientists in tropical medicine. This summer, the fellowship awarded Hassan the opportunity to travel to South Africa and Abid the opportunity to travel to Jordan to continue tropical medicine studies.
The ASTMH is the largest international scientific organization of experts dedicated to reducing the worldwide burden of tropical infectious diseases and improving global health.
