Wake Forest Baptist Heart Transplant Program Named Among Best
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’s heart transplant program has been named a top heart transplant center by Becker’s Hospital Review. Wake Forest Baptist was one of eight hospitals listed and the only one in the state.
This assessment was based on success and functioning of patients one year after transplant.
Becker's Hospital Review is a monthly publication offering business and legal news and analysis relating to hospitals and health systems.
Winston-Salem Foundation Grant Helps Fund Wake Forest Baptist Program
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has received a grant of $14,025 from the Winston-Salem Foundation that will provide a third year of support for a Spanish-speaking clinical trial navigator at Wake Forest Baptist’s Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Founded in 1919, the Winston-Salem Foundation supports charitable programs in the greater Forsyth County area. In 2016, the Foundation granted $38.4 million to charitable causes.
Wake Forest Baptist Pathologist Named to National BoardPatrick Lantz, M.D., professor of pathology at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has been selected as a member of the Ethics and Professionalism Committee for the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS).
As a member of the committee, Lantz – a Forsyth County medical examiner and regional forensic pathologist for the state – will provide oversight and guidance on policies and procedures related to the ethics and professionalism of physicians certified by ABMS member boards.
ABMS focuses on improving the quality of health care by supporting the continuous professional development of physician specialists.
Four Wake Forest Baptist Physicians Honored for Contributions
Four physicians in the department of emergency medicine at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center were recently named to the inaugural class of fellows of the Academy of Emergency Medical Services.
The designation was established to recognize members of the National Association of EMS Physicians and their contributions to the EMS profession and the development and advancement of EMS.
Roy Alson, M.D., Seth Collings Hawkins, M.D., R. Darrell Nelson, M.D. and Jason Stopyra, M.D. join 195 other emergency physicians across the country to receive this inaugural recognition.
Wake Forest Baptist Names Chair of Physician Assistant Studies
Gail Curtis, PA-C,associate professor of physician assistant (PA) studies at Wake Forest School of Medicine, has been named chair of the department. Curtis has served as interim chair since October.
As chair, Curtis will oversee the financial, administrative, research, scholarship, student services and educational aspects of the PA department.
