Wake Forest Baptist Names Chair of Cardiothoracic Surgery

Edward H. (Ted) Kincaid, M.D., has been appointed chair of cardiothoracic surgery at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Kincaid is a cardiothoracic surgeon at Wake Forest Baptist.

Kincaid also serves as director of thoracic transplantation at Wake Forest Baptist. 

In addition to cardiothoracic, cardiovascular and general thoracic surgery, his clinical interests include valvular heart disease and arrhythmia surgery with emphasis on less invasive techniques.

Wake Forest Baptist Names Chair of Pediatrics

Katherine A. Poehling, M.D., M.P.H. has been named chair of the department of pediatrics at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Poehling is a pediatrician at Brenner Children’s Hospital, part of Wake Forest Baptist.

Poehling has served as interim chair since May 2015.

Her research includes vaccine-preventable diseases in children, such as influenza, pneumonia and whooping cough. 

Wake Forest Baptist Physical Therapist Awarded for Stroke Care  

Pamela Woods Duncan, P.T., Ph.D.,  professor of neurology at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has been selected as the recipient of the 2016 Excellence in Post-Acute Stroke Award by the American Congress of Rehabilitation  Medicine (ACRM) Stroke.

The award is co-sponsored by the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM) and the National Stroke Association (NSA) and recognizes Duncan’s clinical, intellectual and service contributions in the area of stroke. 

The ACRM is an organization of rehabilitation professionals dedicated to serving people with disabling conditions by supporting research that promotes health and quality of life. The NSA provides stroke education and programs to stroke survivors, caregivers and health care professionals.

Commissioner Visits Wake Forest Baptist

Commissioner Ann Marie Buerkle of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recently met with the pediatric trauma team of BrennerChildren’s Hospital, part of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

During her September visit, Buerkle toured the facility and praised Brenner Children’s efforts in injury prevention and safety.
