Waid is Promoted to Senior Vice President Position
Michael T. Waid, M.B.A., has been promoted to the new position of senior vice president, health system operations and integration, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Waid, formerly vice president, clinical operations, assumed his new duties Aug. 1. He is responsible for the executive oversight of all health system affiliates owned or managed by Wake Forest Baptist, including the medical centers in Lexington and Davie County.
Since joining Wake Forest Baptist in 2007, Waid has provided administrative and operational leadership across multiple areas, including adult critical care, emergency services, imaging and intervention, laboratory medicine, reconstructive surgery and wound care, rehabilitation and pain management and neurosciences.
Wake Forest Baptist Professor Named Chair of NIH Study Section
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Aug. 31, 2015 – Lynne E. Wagenknecht, Dr.PH., professor and associate director of the Division of Public Health Sciences at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has been named chair of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Kidney, Nutrition, Obesity and Diabetes Study Section, Center for Scientific Review.
According to the NIH, study section members are selected on the basis of their demonstrated competence and achievement in their scientific discipline as evidenced by the quality of research accomplishments, publications in scientific journals, and other significant scientific activities, achievements and honors. The skill and leadership offered by the chair determines to a significant extent the effectiveness and efficiency of the review group.
Two Vice Presidents Appointed in Medical Center’s Finance Division
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Aug. 31, 2015 – Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has appointed Denise Chamberlain, M.A.Ed., and Bradley A. Clark, M.B.A., to newly established financial leadership positions.
Chamberlain has been named vice president and vice chief financial officer, effective Sept. 8. As Wake Forest Baptist’s second-in-command finance leader, she will be responsible for financial management and performance and will serve as an adviser to executive leadership regarding financial operations.
Clark, formerly the Medical Center’s associate vice president, treasury and capital, began serving as vice president, treasury, on Aug. 1. His responsibilities include managing cash, directing short and long-term investments, leading capital market activities and interfacing with related external audiences.
“Denise brings to Wake Forest Baptist a depth of executive experience in financial operations across a variety of for-profit and academic health care settings while Brad brings to his new role extensive knowledge of the Medical Center, deep capital markets experience, and strong business acumen,” said Chad A. Wake Forest Baptist Associate Professor Named President of State Association
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Aug. 31, 2015 –Bret Nicks, M.D., associate professor of emergency medicine at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has been named president of the North Carolina College of Emergency Physicians (NCCEP). He will serve as president through July 2016.
Prior to this post, Nicks has served in many leadership roles within the NCCEP and the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP).
A chartered chapter of the ACEP, the NCCEP advocates for the rights of physicians and their patients, as well as providing continuing medical education resources, news and leadership opportunities.
Wake Forest Baptist Recognized for Safety by State Department of Labor
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Aug. 31, 2015 – Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has received a 2015 Gold Safety Achievement Award from the North Carolina Department of Labor.
The award recognizes the Medical Center for its safety and health efforts that have resulted in a rate at least 50 percent below the industry rate of work-related injuries and illnesses that resulted in days away from work, restricted work activity and/or job transfer, and aided in the promotion of safer working conditions in 2014.
The state Department of Labor’s safety awards program is designed to stimulate interest in accident prevention and to promote safety in the workplace by providing an incentive to employers and employees to maintain safe and healthful workplaces.
Wake Forest Baptist Recognized Nationally for Organ Donation Efforts
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Aug. 31, 2015 – The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has identified Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center as being among the best hospitals in the nation for its organ, eye and tissue donation and registration efforts between August 2014 and April 2015.
The Donation Transplant Council at Wake Forest Baptist worked closely with Carolina Donor Services, a regional organ-procurement organization, and Donate Life North Carolina, a statewide group of organizations that promotes eye, organ and tissue donation, to educate and register new donors.
Wake Forest Baptist Employee Achieves Legal Nurse Consultant Certified Designation
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Aug. 31, 2015 – Sloane Silver, legal nurse consultant in the risk management office at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has earned the Legal Nurse Consultant Certified (LNCC) credential.
Administered by the American Legal Nurse Consultant Certification Board, the LNCC program identifies professionals who have achieved defined levels of knowledge, experience and education in the medical legal system. Certification is granted by examination to registered nurses with at least 2,000 hours of current practice as a legal nurse consultant and a minimum of five years’ licensure as a registered nurse.
Legal nurse consultants are experienced in preparing medical record chronologies, assisting attorneys with discovery, educating attorneys on pertinent medical facts, and identifying issues pertaining to standards of care, causation and damages in legal cases.
