July 21, 2015

The experience of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’s orthopaedic and sports medicine physicians is now available to patients at a convenient location near Hanes Mall off of Stratford Road in Winston-Salem.

Wake Forest Baptist Health Sports Medicine – Stratford opens today (Tuesday) to its first patients. This new outpatient sports medicine and physical therapy facility is located at 1901 Mooney Street. The practice is open six days a week with extended hours Monday through Thursday and Saturdays until noon.

The new location offers full sports medicine and physical therapy/rehabilitation services provided by Wake Forest Baptist’s team of sports medicine physicians and clinicians who specialize in orthopaedic surgery, family medicine, physical therapy and massage therapy.

Wake Forest Baptist, the medical partner for D1 Sports Training, shares the location with D1 Winston-Salem which opened earlier this month. D1 is known for its custom athletic training and expert coaching programs for athletes of all ages. It also offers an extensive adult training program for those either just starting or continuing their fitness journey.

“We are providing greater access and convenience for new and existing patients through this new clinic,” said David F. Martin, M.D., director of sports medicine and professor of orthopaedic surgery at Wake Forest Baptist and lead team physician for the Wake Forest University Demon Deacons and the Winston-Salem Dash professional baseball team. “Our team of sports medicine physicians and clinicians will deliver premium sports medicine and rehabilitation services to patients and D1 members at this unique training and treatment facility. There is nothing like this in this region and we’re proud to be a part of this premier facility.”

Sports medicine services offered at the clinic include: sports injury evaluation and treatment; return-to-play management; concussion care; sports physicals; sports cardiac clearance for young athletes; sports psychology; sports nutrition; nonsurgical treatments; minimally invasive surgical repairs including arthroscopy; and management of medical conditions in athletes (diabetes, asthma, illness).

Physical therapy services include: injury prevention and training; sports conditioning and athletic training; bicycle and running analysis; 2-D motion analysis for a variety of sports; post-operative and sports-specific rehabilitation; biomechanical evaluation and orthotics; and golf evaluations and injury rehabilitation.

The clinic also offers massage therapy including Swedish, deep tissue, sports, therapeutic and neuromuscular massage.

Wake Forest Baptist Health Sports Medicine – Stratford is taking new and existing patients. No referral is necessary and while the clinic can treat D1 members, patients do not need to be a member of D1 to receive care and treatment there.
