Annual Moravian Star Lighting Event to be Held Monday, Dec. 2

November 26, 2013

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center will hold its annual Moravian star lighting ceremony from 5:45 to 6:15 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 2.

Wake Forest Baptist has shared its holiday spirit with the Winston-Salem community through the 31-foot Moravian star atop the Medical Center’s North Tower since 1992. The one-of-a-kind star has 27 points that range in length from 7 to 11 feet and weigh from 30 to 65 pounds each. Each of the points is illuminated by a 100-watt bulb.

The event, which is open to the public free of charge, will be held on the top level of Wake Forest Baptist’s Eden Terrace parking deck off Hawthorne Road.

Music will be provided by the Medical Center Chorale, a youth choir from Winston-Salem’s Union Cross Moravian Church and a Moravian band. There will be a brief worship service and remarks by the Rev. Nola Reed Knouse, Ph.D., of Winston-Salem, director of the Moravian Music Foundation. Hot apple cider and Moravian cookies will be served.

For additional information about the Moravian star lighting ceremony, call Wake Forest Baptist’s Division of Faith and Health Ministries at (336) 716-3027.

Note: Photos and video, including time lapse of star being assembled last year, available for download.
