Regenerative Medicine Researcher to Speak at SciWorks

April 19, 2012

What is the science behind building replacement human organs in the lab? Graca Almeida-Porada, M.D., Ph.D., a professor at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’s Institute for Regenerative Medicine, will explain the science behind regenerative medicine at an 11:30 a.m. talk on Saturday, April 28 at SciWorks, 400 W. Hanes Mill Rd.

While the idea of engineering human organs may sound like science fiction, researchers at the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine were the first in the world to build replacement body parts in the lab that have been implanted in humans. Almeida-Porada will explain and demonstrate some of the processes and discuss the institute’s latest projects.

The event is part of the N.C. Science Festival. Admission to the talk is included in the SciWorks entrance fees.
