Hospitals & Health Networks magazine has recognized Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center as one of the nation’s 25 Most Improved hospitals in the adoption of health information technology.
The magazine’s 2011 Most Wired Survey assessed hospitals and health systems in four critical areas including infrastructure, business and administrative management, clinical quality and safety and care continuum. Respondents completed 530 surveys, representing 1,388 hospitals nationwide.
“This award reflects our accomplishments to date as the Medical Center implements our vision to move from data to information,” said Sheila Sanders, vice president and chief information officer. “We are continuing to integrate new and existing information technology platforms that better support our clinical, educational and research missions.”
One of the next steps for the Medical Center is the implementation of a new information system, Epic. Scheduled to go live starting in July 2012, this system will integrate inpatient, ambulatory, ancillary and revenue cycle information into one health system-wide electronic medical record.
