May 19, 2008

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Officials at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center have signed a letter of intent to lease the Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Facility at Oak Summit to Ardent Health and Rehabilitation.
The new name of the facility will be Oak Forest Health and Rehabilitation. Ardent is a Holly Springs-based company that specializes in operating long-term care facilities. Terms of the lease agreement will be finalized during July 2008.
Current services, including skilled nursing care, rehabilitation and ventilator services, will continue uninterrupted at the 170-bed facility, located at 5680 Windy Hill Drive. The current staff of 175 at Oak Summit will be able to continue employment as part of Ardent.
“We’re pleased that Ardent Health and Rehabilitation will continue to provide superior long-term care for the residents, and on a larger scale will provide more efficient and cost-effective services,” said Robert S. Parker, vice president for special operations and community health at North Carolina Baptist Hospital (NCBH). “Ardent’s reputation for delivering quality, long-term health care is the right fit to achieve our mission.”
Oak Summit is a subsidiary of NCBH. The boards of Oak Summit, NCBH Endowment and NCBH recently voted to approve the lease agreement.
“We’re committed to providing the highest level of quality care and service to the residents in the setting where they live and rehabilitate,” said Christopher Sprenger, president and owner of Ardent Health and Rehabilitation. “We are a ‘hands-on’ company that’s dedicated to the staff, residents and communities in which we serve.”
Ardent operates Beystone Health and Rehabilitation in Fletcher, a 50-bed skilled nursing facility. It also operates Sanford Health and Rehabilitation, a 130-bed skilled nursing facility.
