October 15, 2004

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Janice Grace has been appointed as director of industry relations in the Office of Research at Wake Forest University Health Sciences by Sally A. Shumaker, Ph.D., associate dean for research. She will start on Nov. 1.

Grace had been technology licensing manager at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., since 2000 and before that was research contract manager from 1997 to 2000.

“We are fortunate to have found someone with such a broad and diverse range of experience and knowledge to join our Industry Relations team,” said Shumaker. “Janice will be able to lead the growth of industry-sponsored research for the future as well as help nurture and grow the critical relationship between Industry Relations and Technology Asset Management.”

The Section on Industry Relations seeks industry-sponsored research, and handles administrative, contract, and budgetary functions for those grants. In the fiscal year ending June 30, 2004, the school received $21.4 million for industry-sponsored research, about 11.5 percent of the total outside support for research-related activities.

Grace is a graduate of Upper Iowa University in Des Moines with a degree in marketing.
