The Downtown Health Plaza of Baptist Hospital has received a $240,000 grant from the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust to meet the needs of its growing population of women seeking prenatal care.
The Downtown Health Plaza is experiencing a 13 percent increase in patient visits overall. However, its obstetrics and gynecology clinic has seen a 27 percent increase in the number of pregnant women needing services.
“This funding will allow us to serve more of these women and possibly impact our county’s high infant mortality rate which we know is affected by access to care issues,” said Michael Clements, director of the Downtown Health Plaza. “We are extremely grateful for the support of the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust to our obstetrics and gynecology department.”
The grant will be paid over three years.
The Downtown Health Plaza is located at 1200 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. In addition to obstetrics and gynecology, it provides comprehensive primary and preventative health care services from pediatrics to adult medicine. The facility has an onsite pharmacy, lab and radiology and specialized services including diabetes management, dermatology, gastroenterology, hypertension management, neurology, podiatry, pulmonary care, kidney disease management and outpatient surgery
The Downtown Health Plaza operates Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or after hours by appointment, (336) 713-9700.
