Stout Named Director of Industry Relations at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center

December 3, 2002

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Terry L. Stout has been named director of industry relations, a new position, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Stout, formerly senior clinical business manager of the section on infectious disease at Emory University, was appointed by James E. Smith, Ph.D. associate dean for research.

"Terry brings with him extensive knowledge and experience in industry contracts and a background in grants administration and technology transfer from Emory University and from Georgia Tech," said Smith. "With this background, Terry can make a significant impact in our efforts to increase our industry funding."

Smith noted that the industry relations staff in the Office of Research had been unchanged for the past six years. "They have done a stellar job." But Smith said the number of contracts had increased dramatically.

"Terry will be able to help us streamline our process and reorganize our efforts in a more productive manner for the institution. We want to find ways to assist our investigators in their efforts to collaborate with industry," Smith said.

Previously, Stout was contracting officer and licensing associate at Georgia Tech, where he assisted in creating an industry group including both industry contracting and licensing offices, and where he was responsible for industry research, licensing and royalty agreements. In an earlier eight-year stint at Emory, he was senior research administration business manager, responsible for clinical trial and research agreements, among other functions.
