Baptist Hospital Home Care Sells Medical Equipment/Respiratory Therapy Product Lines

July 28, 1999

Baptist Hospital Home Care has reached an agreement with Lincare, Inc., to sell its durable medical equipment and respiratory therapy (DME/RT) operations to Lincare, a national corporation with offices in Winston-Salem and Greensboro.

Baptist Hospital Home Care, a subsidiary of North Carolina Baptist Hospitals Inc., will continue to operate its other home care operations, including home infusion pharmacy services (drugs delivered and administered in the home), nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, aide services, and medical social work.

Lincare, based in Clearwater, Fla., is an accredited provider of respiratory and durable medical equipment, such as wheelchairs and hospital beds, to patients in the home.

Bob Parker, Baptist Hospital''s vice president for home and community health, said, "By combining our DME/RT operations with Lincare''s, nearly all Baptist Hospital patients can receive DME/RT services from one provider. This will allow us to concentrate our efforts in our home infusion and Medicare-certified home health services."

Baptist Hospital Home Care serves patients from Baptist and other hospitals and clinics throughout the region. Baptist and Lincare officials finalized the agreement on July 28, 1999. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
