Today, Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist cut the ribbon on a new $78 million outpatient surgery center that will increase access to the highest quality surgical care for patients in Winston-Salem and beyond.
Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Outpatient Surgery is located on Medical Center Boulevard, across from Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. The 55,000-square-foot facility features easy and convenient parking, drop-off and pick-up for patients.
The outpatient surgery center, which is scheduled to open in early May, has 12 state-of-the-art surgical suites, including eight operating rooms, two procedure rooms, a simulation operating room and a robotic surgery training room. The simulation and robotics rooms will support Wake Forest Baptist’s medical education mission, as the area’s only academic medical center, to develop the skills of the next generation of surgeons and health care leaders and provide cutting edge robotic care for patients in a convenient and safe outpatient setting.
“This new facility will allow us to better provide the high-quality care, along with increased, convenient access, that our community needs and deserves,” said Dr. David Zaas, president of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. “One of the unique advantages of this facility is that we can offer complex outpatient surgery with extended recovery time for patients who may have additional needs, and we can appropriately manage and care for them in this outpatient setting, with the benefit of having our hospital in close proximity.”
Some of the specialties at this location will include general surgery, along with otolaryngology, orthopaedic, plastic and urological surgery.
“We know that patients generally do not want to go to a hospital if they can receive care in a more patient friendly outpatient setting, so this facility will help us take another important step in our commitment to increase access to high-quality care and make a greater impact on our community and those we serve,” Zaas said.
