Radiation therapy (also called radiotherapy) uses high-energy rays to kill cancer cells. It affects cells only in the part of the body that is treated with the radiation. Breast cancer radiation therapy may be used to destroy any remaining mutated cells that remain in the breast or armpit area after surgery. As with cancer treatment in general, radiation therapy continues to advance offering more treatment options with fewer potential side effects for patients. That is very good news!
Join Dr. Heather Pacholke as she discusses the importance of radiation therapy for treating cancer as well as the advances in treatment options.
