Brenner Children’s Welcomes Three Mascots to its Family

July 18, 2017

The newest members of Brenner Children’s Hospital enjoy active lifestyles, healthy eating, and interacting with children.

They also have paws and fur.

Brenner Children’s, part of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has adopted three playful yet comforting puppy mascots—Brenn, Belle and Beau. These costumed Brenner pups will work together to spread compassion, offer encouragement and educate the youngest residents of the 24 counties that the hospital serves.

The three mascots have distinct physical features and personality traits designed to relate to all within our community.

  • Brenn has blue eyes, multicolored fur and wears a green collar. She’s the oldest of the pups, optimistic and enjoys encouraging patients. Brenn also enjoys being a role model to her brother and sister.
  • Belle has bright green eyes, chocolate-brown fur and a small white patch on her chest. She adds an attentive, comforting and informative identity to the group. She sports a blue collar and enjoys giving advice to youngsters.
  • Beau, the only male in the group, is scruffy with tan fur, white paws and brown eyes. He is a spontaneous rascal who enjoys exercising and telling jokes. Beau wears a red collar and is an advocate of health and wellness.

“We are so excited to welcome Brenn, Belle and Beau into our Brenner Children’s family,” said Julie A. Freischlag, M.D., CEO of Wake Forest Baptist. “Going to the doctor or being in the hospital can be scary, especially for our youngest patients, and by associating friendly characters with the doctors and nurses, we hope the Brenner pups will help ease some of those fears and make children feel a little less apprehensive about a doctor visit or hospital stay.”

In addition to helping out around the hospital, the pups will routinely visit Wake Forest Baptist Health’s pediatric locations, local schools and community events to engage young people and their families while spreading the word about health and wellness.

”This has been more than a yearlong effort involving our hospital patient advisory group and many others across the medical center to bring these mascots to life,” said Alisa L. Starbuck, D.N.P., executive director, Brenner Children’s Hospital. “In choosing a mascot, we couldn’t settle on just one. We have three adorable characters to represent the compassion we have for all of our patients and add another aspect to the high quality, patient- and family-centered care we strive to deliver every day.”
