Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine Receives Award for Bioprinting
Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine (WFIRM) has been awarded a World Changing Ideas Award in the “health” category by Fast Company.
The award acknowledges WFIRM’s research on 3-D bioprinting, which focuses on specialized printers to print replacement tissues and organs. WFIRM was selected from among 1,000 entries.
Fast Company is a business media brand with an editorial focus on innovation in technology, leadership and design.
Wake Forest Baptist Urologist Wins National Award for Consecutive Year
Robert Evans, M.D., associate professor of urology at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, was named the 2016 Interstitial Cystitis (IC) Doctor Of The Year. This is the second consecutive year that Evans has received the honor.
IC is a multi-symptom bladder condition. Voting was part of an awareness campaign sponsored by the IC Network. The award recognizes Evans’ care of men, women and children with IC, bladder pain syndrome, pelvic floor dysfunction and chronic pelvic pain syndrome.
The IC Network is a health education company dedicated to IC, overactive bladder and other pelvic pain disorders.
Wake Forest Baptist Pharmacist Honored for Career Achievements
LeAnne Kennedy, PharmD, transplant pharmacist at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has been awarded the American Society of Bone Marrow Transplant (ASBMT) Pharmacy Special Interest Group Lifetime Achievement Award.
The award recognizes Kennedy’s contributions to the field of pharmacy in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
The ASBMT is a professional association dedicated to improving the application and success of blood and marrow transplantation and related cellular therapies.
Wake Forest Baptist Names New VP of Philanthropy and Alumni Relations
Lisa Marshall has been named vice president of philanthropy and alumni relations at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Marshall’s previous role was associate vice president, philanthropy.
In her new role, Marshall will oversee the strategic effort to engage donors and raise funds to support the clinical, educational and research missions of Wake Forest Baptist. She will work closely with other Medical Center leaders and department heads to facilitate the fundraising process and shape priorities, and will manage all fundraising staff.
Two from Wake Forest School of Medicine Accept Students to Service Awards
Kaela Landis Yates and Nandini Kumar, both fourth-year medical students at Wake Forest School of Medicine, have accepted National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Students to Service Awards.
The awards will provide each student $120,000 toward medical school loan repayment for a commitment to provide primary health care full time for three years at an approved NHSC site in an underserved area.
The NHSC is a federal program administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, Bureau of Health Workforce.
