Dermatologists to Offer Free Skin Cancer Screening

May 16, 2016

Dermatologists with Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center will offer free skin cancer screenings on Thursday, May 19. The event will run from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Medical Plaza – Country Club, located at 4618 Country Club Road in Winston-Salem.

Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer, affecting more than 5 million Americans every year.

Although skin cancer can affect anyone of any age, males and people over the age of 40 are at an increased risk. Other risk factors include smoking, having a family history of skin cancer, a high mole count, fair skin and too much exposure to sunlight or indoor tanning beds.

“Most skin cancers are curable if they are detected early enough,” said Amy McMichael, M.D., chair of dermatology at Wake Forest Baptist. “This is why we encourage everyone who has these risk factors to receive a yearly skin screen. Having your skin checked at this free event is a great way to accomplish that.”

No appointment is necessary and parking is free.

Wake Forest Baptist is home to the region’s leading dermatology department, treating patients from North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and beyond in our state-of-the-art clinic.
