Wake Forest Baptist Receives Grant for Childhood Cancer Research
Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has received a $53,879 grant from the St. Baldrick’s Foundation that will help expand the Medical Center’s childhood cancer research trials.
Wake Forest Baptist is one of 40 institutions to receive funding through the foundation’s fall 2014 infrastructure grants. This year marks the fifth year that St. Baldrick’s has provided a grant to the Medical Center.
St. Baldrick’s is a volunteer-driven charity that supports childhood cancer research.
Wake Forest Baptist Names Chief Nursing Officer
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Dec. 19, 2014 – Alisa L. Starbuck, M.S.N., R.N., has been appointed chief nursing officer at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Starbuck had been director of advanced practice nursing, quality, research and the Magnet program at Wake Forest Baptist. In her new position, she will oversee daily clinical operations, quality of nursing care, inter-professional relationships and fiscal management of assigned inpatient areas at the Medical Center’s main campus while remaining responsible for evidence-based practice and the Magnet program.
Wake Forest Baptist Professor Receives Highest Honor from National Organization
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Dec. 19, 2014 – Sonia Crandall, Ph.D., professor of physician assistant studies at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has received the 2014 Servant Leadership Award from The Generalists in Medical Education. The organization’s highest honor, the award is given to a leader who is committed to enhancing the mission of medical educators.
At the award ceremony, Crandall was recognized by her peers as an active mentor, educator and researcher who has made a difference in her colleagues’ personal and professional development. She is a longstanding member of the organization and served as chair of its steering committee in 2010.
The Generalists in Medical Education is a national organization that is committed to improving medical education with the goal of enhancing patient care.
Wake Forest Baptist Counsel Receives Women of Justice Award
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Dec. 19, 2014 – Beth Gianopulos, J.D., counsel in the legal department at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has been selected by North Carolina Lawyers Weekly as a 2014 Women of Justice Award recipient.
The award recognizes women across the state who demonstrate leadership, integrity, service, sacrifice and accomplishment in improving the quality of justice and exemplifying the highest ideals of the legal profession. Gianopulos was one of two to receive the award in the corporate counsel category.
Since 1988, North Carolina Lawyers Weekly has provided legal news, opinions and court decisions for practicing lawyers in the state.
Wake Forest Baptist Recognized for Orthopaedic Program
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Dec. 19, 2014 – Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has been named one of Becker’s Hospital Review’s “125 Hospitals with Great Orthopedic Programs” for 2014.
The hospitals and health systems featured on the list have orthopaedic surgery departments, programs or dedicated centers that have earned recognition from several reputable sources.
