Wayne Meredith, M.D., chair of general surgery at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has been selected to receive the 2014 Distinguished Service Award (DSA) from the American College of Surgeons (ACS), the highest honor bestowed by ACS.
As this year’s DSA recipient, Meredith is recognized for his contributions to ACS, trauma care and the field of surgery. The award citation states that Meredith was chosen for his “continuous and devoted service as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons” and his “distinctive scientific contributions in cardiovascular physiology during resuscitation, trauma registries and trauma systems.”
At Wake Forest Baptist, Meredith is the Richard T. Myers Professor and Chair of surgery and Surgeon-in-Chief, as well as the medical director of the Childress Institute for Pediatric Trauma. He graduated from Emory University and received his medical degree from Wake Forest School of Medicine. He completed residencies in surgery and cardiovascular disease at Wake Forest Baptist and is board certified in surgery, surgical critical care and thoracic surgery.
