Wake Forest Baptist Faculty Members Recognized by Thomson Reuters
Three Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center faculty members – Stephen Kritchevsky, Ph.D., director of the Sticht Center on Aging and Rehabilitation, Mark Hall, J.D., professor of public health sciences, and Curt Furberg, M.D., Ph.D., emeritus professor of public health sciences – have been named Highly Cited Researchers by Thomson Reuters.
Highly Cited Researchers were determined by analyzing citation data from 2002 to 2012 to identify those individuals who published the highest-impact work and ranked in the top 1 percent of those cited in their subject field. Kritchevsky and Hall are two of the 177 researchers in the field of general social sciences to receive this honor while Furberg is one of 402 researchers in the field of clinical medicine to be listed.

Wake Forest Baptist Assistant Professor Recognized by Entrepreneurial Non-Profit
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – July 31, 2014 – Vascular Cures has named Matthew Corriere, M.D., assistant professor of vascular and endovascular surgery at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, as its 2014 Wylie Scholar in Academic Vascular Surgery.
The $150,000 multiyear award, co-sponsored by the Society for Vascular Surgery, supports Corriere’s research aimed at increasing participation of patients with peripheral arterial disease in their own care by enabling providers to involve them in treatment decisions.
Vascular Cures is a nonprofit organization that represents patients suffering from vascular diseases for which there are inadequate treatment options. For 18 years, Vascular Cures’ Wylie Scholar Program has provided financial assistance to surgeons at the early stage of their careers to help them develop as academic vascular surgeon-scientists.
Wake Forest Baptist Neuroscience Graduate Program Ranked Top Ten

Wake Forest Baptist Researcher Recognized by International Society
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – July 31, 2014 – James McCormick, Ph.D., director of aerospace, hyperbaric and undersea research at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has been named a Fellow of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS).
This honor is given to members of UHMS in good standing who have devoted significant time and effort to the practice or advancement of undersea and hyperbaric medicine, achieved a high level of expertise in their field, and demonstrated professional and ethical standards consistent with the aims and expectations of the UHMS.
Formed in 1967, UHMS is an international non-profit organization that serves as a source of scientific and medical information about hyperbaric medicine.
Wake Forest Baptist Telestroke Network Recognized for Outstanding Acute Care Telemedicine
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – July 31, 2014 – The Telestroke Network at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center has received the Outstanding Acute Care Telemedicine Achievement Award from InTouch Health.
Wake Forest Baptist, whose network spans 12 hospitals*, was selected for its ability to maintain an administration rate of tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) well above the national average, to keep stroke patients in their communities and transfer them for advanced therapies as needed, to provide educational services and support to its network hospitals and the community, and to increase access to stroke care across the state.
InTouch Health is a leader in acute care telemedicine technology. It gives this award to its customers to recognize them for leading the way in delivering new models of care.
*Wake Forest Baptist had 11 hospitals in its network when it was considered for the award.
Wake Forest Baptist Department Recognized for Quality
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – July 31, 2014 – The Section on Infectious Diseases, part of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’s Department of Internal Medicine, has received the Quality of Care Award for Quality Improvement Activities from the National Quality Center (NQC).
Wake Forest Baptist received the award for conceptualizing and carrying out a patient retention and re-engagement project that led to significant improvement in HIV patient care.
NQC is a leader in the development and administration of HIV-related quality-improvement services.
