New Executive Vice President of Strategy and Network Development at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center

December 2, 2013

Terry G. Williams has been named Executive Vice President of Strategy and Network Development at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, effective Dec. 2.

“Even in these difficult financial times, we need to make investments in people, systems and processes that are required to succeed in the coming world of value-based health care reimbursement,” said John D. McConnell, M.D., chief executive officer at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. “The integration of strategy, clinical business development and informatics will be essential to being both effective and efficient in new models of care where we will be rewarded for decreasing health care utilization.”

In this newly created position, Williams will advise and execute overall business strategy, foster strategic alliances, catalyze growth and process improvement initiatives and guide community relations and communications to increase reach in key markets. He will be responsible for overall strategy and leadership for affiliations, business intelligence, partnerships, joint ventures and management agreements.

“We are already off to a great start with Terry,” added McConnell. “We worked closely together over several months to develop our alliance with Cornerstone Health Care via Cornerstone Health Enablement Strategic Solutions, LLC (CHESS), announced last month. He has experience establishing clinically integrated networks and population management systems, key drivers of our Cornerstone alliance.”

For the past three years, Williams has served as Chief Strategy and Growth Officer at a 12 hospital, $2.7 billion health system in the mid-west, where he had previously served as Executive Vice President of Organizational Transformation. He was Executive Sponsor for a successful 12-hospital electronic medical records rollout including Epic in more than 100 locations. As Vice President at Eclipsys Corp (now AllScripts) in Boca Raton, Fla., he successfully built a multi-million dollar health information technology services division. Over his 20-plus year career, he has worked with more than 200 health care organizations to drive breakthrough quality, operational, IT and financial performance.

Terry earned his MBA from Emory University and a Graduate Diploma in Economics from the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England, where he was a Rotary Scholar.

Williams’ strengths include a long list of community involvement. He was the volunteer co-founder of the Great Atlanta Youth Walk and of a camp for foster, abused and neglected children. He and his wife led thousands of individuals and several dozen churches to respond to the needs of at-risk children in Georgia.

Williams will join the executive leadership team on December 2, and assume oversight of Strategic Planning, Communications, Marketing and Media, Information Technology, Clinical Business Development and related data analytics.
