Steven C. Snelgrove has been promoted to president of Wake Forest Baptist Health--Lexington Medical Center, effective July 1.
Snelgrove, 54, came to Lexington in November as part of a planned transition in which Donny Lambeth retires on June 30 after 40 years with Wake Forest Baptist. Snelgrove has been chief operating officer.
Lambeth and Snelgrove have worked together since Snelgrove came to Wake Forest Baptist in 1989. “Steve has spent the last seven months learning the people and operations of Lexington Medical Center,” said Lambeth. “With his experience at Wake Forest Baptist, he is well-prepared to assume the leadership position,” said Lambeth. “He has keen insight into managing a hospital.”
“The Board of Directors is impressed with Steve’s commitment to Lexington Medical Center and to improving the health of the community,” said R. B. Smith Jr., chair. “We are confident that he will continue to strengthen the hospital following the very effective leadership of Donny Lambeth.”
Snelgrove reports to Thomas Sibert, M.D., MBA, president and COO of Wake Forest Baptist Health and a member of the Board of Directors of Lexington Medical Center. “Steve is a strong leader with an excellent track record in operations at the Medical Center,” said Sibert. “His goals are to continue to strengthen the hospital by meeting the health care needs of the community and aligning the hospital with the Winston-Salem campus.”
Snelgrove has been a leader in community organizations in Winston-Salem and will become involved in Lexington area activities. “I look forward to making a contribution to the community,” he said. “Strengthening the community makes the hospital stronger.” In Winston-Salem, Snelgrove has been chairman of the Downtown Winston-Salem Partnership, chair of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Planning Board, and a director of the United Way and the Chamber of Commerce boards. He previously served on the Policy Development Committee of the North Carolina Hospital Association.
“The Board of Directors has led the hospital through the transition to becoming a part of Wake Forest Baptist, and the hospital is well-positioned to meet the challenges of the future,” said Snelgrove. “I am grateful for this opportunity and excited to be part of the hospital and the community.”
Snelgrove said he is impressed with the loyalty and dedication of the physicians and staff at the hospital. “Clearly, the team is focused on meeting the needs of patients. Led by our physicians, we are committed to strengthening the quality of our services, improving patient satisfaction and containing costs.”
Before coming to Wake Forest Baptist, Snelgrove was an executive at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. He is a graduate of the University of Connecticut and earned his master’s degree from the University of Hartford.
He and his wife, Joyce, are the parents of a son, who is in high school. He enjoys sports, photography and gardening and has taught the youth group in Sunday school.
