Brain Health to be Focus of April 28 Event at Wake Forest Biotech Place

Ever wonder how memory works? Are there ways to keep your brain fit?

Find out on Saturday, April 28, when Wake Forest Baptist Medical Centerhosts "Staying Sharp: Ask the Experts about Keeping Your Brain Young."

This free event, produced by the Wake Forest Graduate School of Arts and Sciences in collaboration with the Dana Alliance for Brain Initiatives, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at Wake Forest Biotech Place, 575 N. Patterson Ave. in downtown Winston-Salem.

The keynote speaker will be Gary Small, M.D., professor of psychiatry and director of the UCLA Longevity Center at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior. He is the author of six books, including "The Memory Bible" and "The Alzheimer's Prevention Program." Bookmarks of Winston-Salem will host a book signing with Small following his talk.

The "Staying Sharp" presentation will follow. Three Wake Forest Baptist faculty members - Floyd "Ski" Chilton, Ph.D., professor of physiology and pharmacology; Paul Laurienti, M.D., Ph.D., professor of radiology, and Kaycee Michelle Sink, M.D., associate professor of geriatrics and gerontology - and Janine Jennings, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology at Wake Forest University, will participate in a panel discussion then take questions from members of the audience.

A "Brain Fair" featuring quizzes and other brain-challenging  activities also will be conducted and free refreshments will be available.
