  Wake Forest Baptist Faculty Appointed Director of Breast Cancer Center

Marissa Howard-McNatt, M.D., assistant professor of surgery, has been appointed director of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’s Breast Care Center (BCC).

In this new position, McNatt’s responsibilities will include facilitating and enhancing the BCC program while maintaining excellent patient-centered care, provide leadership to a multidisciplinary team and support clinical and translational research as well as educational initiatives.

The BCC, established in January 2000, provides state-of-the-art care for patients with a full spectrum of breast diseases. The multidisciplinary team includes surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, plastic surgeons, radiologists, specialized nurses, patient navigators, genetic counselors and research support personnel.

Wake Forest Baptist Medical Student to Serve as a
2012 Lambaréné Schweitzer Fellow

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Jan. 18, 2012 – Tracy Cassagnol, a third-year medical student at Wake Forest School of Medicine, part of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, has been invited by the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship (ASF) to serve as a 2012 Lambaréné Schweitzer Fellow.

Cassagnol, one of the four medical students selected for this fellowship, will spend three months working at the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Lambaréné, Gabon, Africa. During this rotation, she will work as a junior physician supervised by hospital medical staff.

ASF’s mission is to support dedicated and skilled students who wish to meet the health needs of underserved communities. All 250 Schweitzer Fellows provide approximately 50,000 hours of service to nearly 25,000 individuals in need each year.
