Internationally acclaimed harpist Christina Tourin will perform in Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’s Davis Chapel at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4. The event is free and open to the public.
The concert, “Simply Beautiful Music: An Evening of Healing Music Featuring the Celtic Harp,” also will feature Beth Hunter playing the chapel’s Schlicker pipe organ.
Tourin, who previously performed in Davis Chapel in 2008, holds degrees in music and education from the University of Vermont and also has studied harp at the Mozarteum in Austria and McGill University in Canada. She has recorded more than a dozen albums and has performed throughout the United States and in numerous other countries, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Japan, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. She founded the Scottish Harp Society of America in 1982 and is the founder and director of the International Harp Therapy Program.
Davis Chapel is located on Hawthorne Road on the east side of the medical center complex. Free parking for the concert will be available in the employee parking deck directly across Hawthorne Road from the chapel.
The concert is being held in conjunction with the Southeastern International Harp Therapy Program’s regional conference, to be held Oct. 4-5 at the Hawthorne Inn and Wake Forest Baptist’s Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The International Harp Therapy Program promotes the use of the harp to support patient healing, whether physical, emotional, mental or spiritual. At Wake Forest Baptist, volunteers in the Healing Harps program perform every Wednesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the atrium of the Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The Cancer Patient Support Program and the Visual and Performing Arts Program at Wake Forest Baptist are co-sponsors of the Oct. 4 concert. For additional information, contact Ruth Moskop at rmoskop@wakehealth.edu.
