Ninety-four physicians from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center have been named on the first “Top Doctors” list issued by U.S. News & World Report.

Of the 94 Wake Forest Baptist doctors selected, 53 were cited as being among the top
1 percent in the nation in their respective fields, according to Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., U.S. News’ partner in the project.

Wake Forest Baptist ranked first among hospitals in the Triad by a wide margin – no other institution in the region had more than five physicians listed – and third in the state, behind only Duke University Medical Center in Durham (143) and Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte (96).

The 94 Wake Forest Baptist doctors on the list, which was released earlier this week, represent 35 different specialties and subspecialties.

“Great care will always be reflected more in the people who render it than in the technology and facilities in which it occurs. You see that in the doctors named on this list,” said Tom Sibert, President and COO of Wake Forest Baptist Health. “We are proud to have dedicated caregivers leading our passion to cure at Wake Forest Baptist, and are gratified that they are receiving national recognition for their leadership.”

The U.S. News list, which includes 28,518 doctors from across the United States, was developed in collaboration with Castle Connolly, the publisher of America’s Top Doctors and other guides.

The U.S. News “Top Doctors” list was compiled from nominations submitted by doctors who could nominate other doctors, but not themselves – and reviewed by Castle Connolly’s physician-led research team.
