Donny C. Lambeth, M.B.A., president of North Carolina Baptist Hospital, has been named to the Leadership Advisory Council of The Joint Commission Center for Transforming Healthcare.
Lambeth is one of 13 healthcare executives from hospitals and pharmaceutical companies across the country who will guide the Center in its efforts to improve healthcare quality and patient safety.
The Joint Commission Center for Transforming Healthcare aims to solve healthcare’s most critical safety and quality problems. The Chairman is Mark Chassin, M.D., president of The Joint Commission.
The Center’s participants, which include some of the nation’s leading hospitals and health systems, use a systematic approach to analyze specific breakdowns in care, discover their underlying causes and develop targeted solutions that solve these complex problems. Center projects include hand hygiene, wrong-site surgery, hand-off communications and the redirection of surgical site infections following colorectal surgery. Future projects are expected to focus on preventable hospitalizations, medication errors and other aspects of infection control.
“Hospitals and healthcare systems are working together to solve the toughest and most persistent problems facing our organizations,” said Lambeth. “The perspective of the Center’s Council members will bring perspectives together to create lasting solutions to issues relating to safe, reliable healthcare.”
Lambeth is a member of the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Hospital Association and Hospice and Palliative CareCenter. In addition, he is Chairman of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Board of Education and a member of the Board of Visitors of High Point University.
The first set of targeted solutions, created by eight hospitals and healthcare systems working in collaboration with the Center, focuses on improving hand hygiene. The second set of solutions focuses on improving hand-off communications. The targeted solutions for hand-off communications will be pilot tested to prove their effectiveness in demographically diverse hospitals and will be added to the list of solutions next year.
