The Center for Reproductive Medicine of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center has been awarded accreditation by the Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), based on the results of a recent onsite inspection.
Alberto J. Carrillo, Ph.D., is the lab director. Carrillo is certified as a High Complexity Laboratory Director from the American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB), which means a certain level of qualifications have been met and exceeded. He is also a member of the Society for Reproductive Medicine and the College of Reproductive Biology (AAB).
The Center for Reproductive Medicine is one of more than 7,000 CAP-accredited laboratories worldwide. The CAP program, begun in the 1960s, is recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program.
During CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, as well as the lab’s equipment, facilities, safety program and record, in addition to the overall management of the lab. This stringent inspection program is specifically designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients.
The Center for Reproductive Medicine has also opened full-time endocrinology and andrology services at 526 N. Elam Street in Greensboro.
Consultations, IVF cycle management, semen analysis, intrauterine insemination services and sperm preparation services are being offered at this location Monday through Friday by fellowship-trained, reproductive endocrinology-infertility specialist Erika Johnston-MacAnanny, M.D.
