Wake Forest Baptist Nurse Honored with National Award
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Sept. 21, 2010 – Jason Nagle, R.N., a pediatric emergency nurse at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, has been selected as the 2010 Distinguished Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse (CPEN) Award winner.
The annual award honors one Certified Pediatric Emergency Nurse in the nation who makes significant contribution to pediatric emergency nursing through promoting and supporting the certification process.
The award is given on behalf of both the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) and the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB).
Nagle, who holds numerous other specialized certifications, will receive his award on Saturday, Sept. 25, during the BCEN Certification Recognition Breakfast, at the Emergency Nurses Association Annual Meeting in San Antonio.
Wake Forest Baptist Nurses Recognized by Pediatric Nursing Certification Board
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Sept. 21, 2010 – Seven nurses at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center were recently recognized for excellence in pediatric nursing by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCD), the leading certification organization for pediatric nurses.
The following registered nurses earned the Certified Pediatric Nurse credential on July 30: Lauren Chavis, Tiffany Renee Cope, Julie Hall, Melanie Marsh, Regina Mulligan, Amanda Valentine, and Jennifer Whisnant.
Certification recognizes a nurse’s commitment to professional development and acknowledges the achievement of specialty knowledge beyond basic nursing preparation.
Hutchinson Appointed to Winston-Salem Sister Cities International Board
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Sept. 21, 2010 – Kim Hutchinson, Ed.D., R.N., Behavioral Health Sciences, has been appointed to Winston-Salem’s Sister Cities (WSSC) International Board by Mayor Allen Joines.
The WSSC is charged to promoting international cooperation, understanding and development through a variety of dynamic exchanges with specific cities that have an active, formal relationship with Winston-Salem.
Winston-Salem’s sister cities are: Ungheni, Moldova; Kumasi, Ghana; Nassau, Bahamas; Shanghai, Yang Pu District, China; and Bucaramanga, Colombia.
Sister Cities in a nonprofit citizen diplomacy network seeking stronger economic and cultural ties between cities in the United States and those in other countries.
Surgery Professor Carlos M. Ferrario Hosts Annual Consortium in Charleston, S.C.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Sept. 21, 2010 – The annual Carlos M. Ferrario Consortium for Southeastern Hypertension Control (COSEHC) will be held in Charleston, S.C. on Oct. 29.
Ferrario is a professor of general surgery at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, who is well known for his work in increasing awareness in cardiovascular disease in the Southeastern United States. The lectureship honors the founding of COSEHC and Ferrario’s work.
Suzanne Oparil, M.D., professor of medicine, and physiology and biophysics, at the University of Alabama, in Birmingham will deliver this year's Founder Lectureship.
COSEHC was created in 1992 to improve the disproportionate rate of hypertension-related illness and death throughout the Southeast region. The consortium promotes science based research and educational activities and offers an ideal translational research network through its Cardiovascular Center of Excellence, which includes Wake Forest Baptist’s Hypertension & Vascular Research Center.
Wake Forest Baptist Surgeon to Accept International Award in China
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Sept. 21, 2010 – Gary Poehling, M.D., professor of Orthopaedics, will accept the award for the World’s Outstanding Endoscopy Surgeon, at the Second World Endoscopy Doctor Congress to be held in November in Macau, China.
The Congress will be held by the Chinese Endoscopy Doctor Association, which is affiliated with the Chinese Medical Doctor Association. In addition to receiving the award, Poehling will also serve as co-chairman of the congress and vice-chairman of the World Endoscopy Doctor Association.
