Wake Forest Baptist Diabetes Program Receives Recognition
The American Diabetes Association has given its Education Recognition Award to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center for its Diabetes Self-Management Program. The award is given to programs that demonstrate adherence to national standards by providing quality diabetes education to patients, their families and the community.
Continuing Medical Education Program Receives National Recognition
The Wake Forest University School of Medicine 2009-2010 On-Line Educational Program series of Northwest Area Health Education Center (AHEC) has received the first ever National AHEC Award for Excellence in Learning Resources. This award is presented to organizations that have telecommunication, distance learning, library, or resource systems designed for enhancing AHEC programs.
Scoggin Elected to Autism Society’s Board of Directors
Steve N. Scoggin, Psy.D., L.P.C., president of CareNet of North Carolina, has been elected to serve on the board of directors for the Autism Society of North Carolina. CareNet provides faith-integrated counseling and professional services and is an affiliate of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
Gerancher Appointed to North Carolina Medical Board
Karen R. Gerancher, M.D., assistant professor, section head of gynecology and residency program director for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, has been appointed by Governor Beverly Perdue to the North Carolina Medical Board.
Gerancher is the recipient of numerous awards including the Resident Advocate Award, the Outstanding Clinical Teacher Award and the University Medical Guild Memorial Award for Excellence. She is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is active in the maintenance of certification process
Brashear Named as a 2010 YWCA Woman of Vision
Allison Brashear, M.D., professor and chair of the Department of Neurology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, has been awarded the 2010 YWCA Woman of Vision Award.
The YWCA of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County "Women of Vision" Award winners are chosen based on their knowledge, creativity, leadership and other traits that make a positive impact on the community. Brashear was nominated by Mary Lou Voytko, Ph.D., director of Women's Health Center of Excellence for Research, Leadership, Education and professor of neurobiology and anatomy at Wake Forest Baptist.
Goff Awarded the 2010 National Public Policy Award
David C. Goff, Jr., M.D., Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Prevention and professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, recently received the 2010 National Forum Public Policy Award from the National Forum for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention.
Goff was recognized for his advocacy of House Bill two, the Smoke Free in N.C. Bill that banned smoking in bars and restaurants.
Wake Forest Baptist Researchers Receive Mimics Innovation Award
Scott Gayzik, Ph.D., senior research associate and Dan Moreno, research assistant of the Virginia Tech-Wake Forest University School of Biomedical Engineering and Sciences (SBES) Center for Injury Biomechanics, have been awarded first place in the 2010 Mimics Innovation Awards for their project, "The Development of Full Body Geometrical Data for Finite Element Models." This work is in support of the Global Human Body Models Consortium project efforts, for which SBES is the lead model Integration center.
Wake Forest Baptist Researcher Receives the Research Recognition Award
Lijun Tang, Ph.D., a research fellow for the Center of Research for Obstetrics and Gynecology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, has received the Research Recognition Award from the Endocrinology and Metabolism Section of the American Physiological Society.
