WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The sixth annual Jenni’s Walk of Hope will be held Saturday May 8 at Bermuda Run Country Club to raise funds for melanoma cancer education and research at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center’s Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The event will include 3- and 1-mile walks, and a captain’s choice golf tournament at Bermuda Run’s Gold/Silver Course. The Walk will begin at 9 a.m., with sign-in at 7:30 a.m. The golf tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 2 p.m. Participants in the Walk or tournament must register by April 23. Information is available at www.jenniswalkofhope.org.
During the past five years, the event has raised more than $83,000 to support education and research on melanoma, a type of skin cancer that is found in more than 1 million Americans each year and is the cause of death for more young women than any other cancer. The Walk is named in honor of Jenni Hewitt, who died after battling melanoma for five years, and was organized by her friends and family in honor of her determined spirit.
Wake Forest Baptist’s Comprehensive Cancer Center is a national leader in research and patient care for all types of basic and rare cancers. The Center is designated as “comprehensive” by the National Cancer Institute for national excellence and leadership in cancer research, patient care and education.
