Cardiologist to Head National Cardiovascular Certification Board

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – William C. Little, M.D., chief of cardiology and McMichael Professor of Internal Medicine at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, has been appointed chair-elect of the cardiovascular disease subspecialty board of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).

Little has served on the eight-member board since 2004. He will become chair in 2011.  The cardiovascular disease board develops and administers the examination for board certification of cardiovascular specialists.

Certification by the ABIM means physicians meet the highest standards in internal medicine and/or its subspecialties and have demonstrated the clinical judgment, skills and attitudes essential for the delivery of excellent patient care.  The ABIM certifies physicians in internal medicine, as well as 19 subspecialties, including cardiovascular disease.

Little, who is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology, has published more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific publications. He is a member of the American College of Cardiology, the American Physiological Society, the American Society for Clinical Investigation, the American Association of Physicians, the Association of University Cardiologists, and the American Heart Association’s Council on Clinical Cardiology.
