Alicia C. Walters, M.D., Sandra B. Farland, R.N., M.D., and John L. Turner, M.D., have joined the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
Turner, an assistant professor, is seeing patients at the Peace Haven Family Medicine Clinic, but also has a 50 percent academic commitment to the department as he assumes the new role of co-director for the Family Medicine Residency Program at the medical school. He shares the directorship with Anne Hiott Barham, M.D.
Turner earned his medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in 1996 and then completed his residency at Riverside Regional Medical Center in
Newport News, Va. Prior to joining Wake Forest Baptist, he was clerkship director for the Department of Family Medicine at Indiana University in Indianapolis. He is board certified in family medicine and sports medicine.
Walters and Farland are clinical instructors in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and are also seeing patients at the Peace Haven clinic. Both served as chief resident in 2008-09 in the Wake Forest Baptist Family Medicine Residency Program.
Farland received her medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond, Va. Her clinical interests include women’s health, preventative medicine and office-based procedures.
Walters received her medical degree from Medical University of Ohio School of Medicine in Toledo, Ohio. Her clinical interests include pediatric and adolescent medicine, office-based procedures and preventative medicine.
