Wake Forest Baptist Urologist Elected President of International Organization

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Gopal Badlani, M.D., a professor of urology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, has been elected president of the Endourology Society. The society works to facilitate scientific dialogue among endourologists worldwide and is the largest specialty society in the field of urology.

Badlani’s role will be to serve as managing editor of the society’s journal, to ensure that society training courses reflect changing technology, to oversee six sub-societies and to organize an observance of the society’s 25th anniversary. In addition, he hopes to initiate a research program with international participation. Badlani was a founding member of the society and served as its treasurer for 23 years.

Badlani, who is vice chairman for clinical affairs of the Department of Urology, is a world expert in the field of urinary incontinence. He has been invited nationally and internationally as a visiting professor. He is the editor of several textbooks and has published more than 200 manuscripts and book chapters.

Badlani completed his urology residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and a fellowship in neurourology at Baylor University. He specializes in urinary incontinence in women and men and in minimally invasive treatments for pelvic organ prolapse and prostate obstruction. His research focuses on the genetic aspects of pelvic organ prolapse.
